Fall is a great time of the year in Bloomington, Indiana. The weather is amazing, nature goes through a beautiful change of colors, and everyone gets excited for holidays that are just around the corner. There are tons of activities, things to do, and events that take place during this time of year. To get into the spirit of fall, check out our list of upcoming October events below.
Great Glass Pumpkin Patch
Date: October 14
Time: 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Location: Monroe County Courthouse, 100 W. Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington, IN 47404
Going to the pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect pumpkin is a long-standing Halloween tradition. This year, do something different while still keeping the tradition — come pick out your very own handmade, glass-blown pumpkin at the 8th Annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch. Over 900 glass pumpkins will be displayed on the lawn of the Monroe County Courthouse like a real pumpkin patch. All of the pumpkins are made by members of the Bloomington Creative Glass Center, and purchases support arts education. During the afternoon, there will be hands-on activities, including face painting, a glass-fused suncatcher workshop, and pumpkin painting.
IU Homecoming Weekend and Football VS Michigan
Date: October 13 and 14
Time: Kickoff starts at noon on Saturday
Location: Memorial Stadium, 1001 E. 17th St., Bloomington, IN 47408
One of the most popular events during the fall, homecoming weekend welcomes thousands of alumni, parents, and fans to Bloomington. There will be a parade and pep rally on October 13. Detailed information on all homecoming activities can be found on IU’s event calendar. Celebrate all things cream and crimson with a weekend-long celebration culminating with the homecoming game against Michigan. You can purchase tickets for the game through IU Athletics. Go IU!

Hoosier Hysteria
Date: October 21
Time: Doors open at 5:30 p.m., event begins at 7 p.m.
Location: Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, 1001 E. 17th St., Bloomington, IN 47408
Hoosier Hysteria, presented by Smithville Fiber, annually serves as the official tipoff for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. Admission is free, but fans are encouraged to bring a canned food item and donate to Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Fans can expect games, music, contests, prizes, and an up-close look at the Hoosiers prior to the start of the season.
